Conventional residential cooking tops typically employ gas or resistance heating elements to transfer energy with efficiencies of approximately 32% and 75-80% respectively. Residential induction cooking tops instead consist of an electromagnetic coil that creates a magnetic field when supplied with an electric current. When brought into this field, compatible cookware is warmed internally, transferring energy with approximately 85% efficiency.
If you’re interested in an induction cooktop, TID is offering a loan program for our residential customers to test induction cooking with cookware in their homes. Residents will be able to check out the induction burner kit for in home cooking for a 2 week trial.
