Technical Skills Series – Construction and Maintenance

TID is offering an opportunity for recent high school graduates and those interested in starting a career in construction to receive hands-on training with TID Construction & Maintenance staff. Candidates will learn transferable skills through both classroom and hands-on trainings. 

Classes are held every Tuesday evening, June 25 – July 30, 2024 – 5 p.m. 

Eligibility:

  • 18 years or older
  • Driver’s license – Class C
  • HS Diploma or GED
  • Ability to work in US
  • Drug free

The ideal candidate from this program is:

  • Interested in a career in construction or looking to
    establish baseline skills in a variety of construction related areas
  • Willing to learn
  • Positive attitude
  • Committed to attending all sessions

Topics Covered throughout the Program

Construction Equipment

  • Equipment safety, Class A overview, tie down
    equipment and loads, dirt compaction, equipment
    operations and maintenance

Water Distribution Department

  • Introduction to grower tools, maintaining the water from the canal to growers’ fields

Line Department

  • Introduction to trade tools, maintaining power line from transmission to distribution

Facilities

  • Plumbing and basic electrical repair

Mechanics

  • Shop safety, oil changes, brakes and bit inspection

Pipeline

  • Confined space training, pipeline troubleshooting and
    repair, irrigation gate maintenance and repair

Welding & Fabrication

  • Tool safety, welding basics and introduction to
    fabrication

Application Timeline

  • Applications for the TID Technical Skills Series – Construction and Maintenance will be accepted through June 3, 2024.
  • All applicants will be notified of the status of their application by June 14, 2024. Space is limited.
  • Skills Series begins June 25, 2024.
