If you or another full-time resident in your home must regularly use a medical life-support device, or if your medical condition requires special heating or air conditioning in order to sustain life, you may qualify for our Medical Rate Assistance Program. The Medical Rate Assistance Program reduces the rate for the first 500 kilowatt hours of monthly energy use by 50 percent.
Examples of life support devices include but are not limited to:
Devices used for therapy, rather than for life support, generally do not qualify.
The use of air conditioning and/or electric heating to maintain a specific room temperature essential to sustain the life of a resident with a medical condition determined by a physician may qualify.
How to Apply
To apply for the Medical Rate Discount you must:
Be currently served on the Schedule DE, DG or DT Residential Rate
Fill out and sign the application, printing all information legibly
Have your DOCTOR complete and sign the reverse side of the application

How do I prepare for an outage, given my medical condition?
While we make every effort to provide reliable electric power to all our customers, outages may occur at any time and you should be prepared for them.
Keep phone numbers of emergency response agencies (e.g. 911, hospital, fire department, police) in a convenient location, in the event emergency assistance is needed.
Ensure batteries are fully charged each day if you use a battery-powered medical device and keep extra batteries handy.
Keep a flashlight and extra batteries handy.
Have a back-up telephone that does not rely on electricity and battery-powered radio on hand.
Have an alternative plan in place to ensure the continuity of any medical needs. This may include making special arrangements to spend time with a friend or relative during an outage.
If I get the Medical Rate discount can I also apply for the CARES Program?
Yes, you can receive both the Medical Rate discount as well as the CARES discount at the same time.
